Bogus Basin Ski Resort Weekend Jan 2016 loftandlearn Where's Ace...

He received the best and most thoughtful instruction from Nick who treated him like an individual and catered to his strengths and carefully critiqued his weaknesses as a first timer. He worked with Ace with ease and made him feel comfortable and excited to learn the basics of safety first then actual boarding after he felt sure of Ace’s skills! It was amazing witnessing this cool transformation from not knowing how to put his boot on to taking the ski lift and coming down the hill by himself!

Not only was the ski instructor Nick a great find but the entire staff was spectacular. Especially our new friend Lenny, the ski host who made us feel so welcomed and at ease. He took special care informing us of the ins and outs of the ski resort, all of the many hills, degrees of difficulty and much more!! Thanks Lenny we’ll see you all soon…

History

The area probably got its name during the 19th-century gold rush. Crooks in the hills above Boise City, known as “spelterers”, would make bogus gold dust by heating lead filings with a bit of real gold dust.

Alf Engren, the father of the American powder technique, selected the site for the ski area at Bogus Basin in 1939. Bogus opened to the public 74 years ago in December 1942 with a 500-foot (150 m) rope tow; a 3,300-foot  T-Bar was installed in 1946. In the early 1950s, Bogus had a 30-meter Nordic Ski Jump, designed by Corey Engren and his brother Sverre was Bogus’ ski instructor.

Sleeping Bear Dunes, MI

Ace and Kingston had an amazing time at the Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan this summer with Auntie Mern, Uncle Cleve, CJ and Grandma & Grandpa Ernest. They were able to help Ace celebrate his 5th Birthday!

As usual Auntie Mern turned it into a spectacular learning lesson and activity. Prior to going on the trip she read with Ace about the sleeping bear folklore so he could understand the Legend of the sleeping bear dunes and then when they arrived he had a completely different and unique attachment to what he witnessed.

Table Rock is a mountain pillar located just south-east of downtown Boise, Idaho, United States in the foothills of the Rocky Mountain

Interesting and Sad history about this beautiful landmark that we learned of after our wonderful hike.

The Site was sacred to the Shoshone Bannock natives long before the encroachment of settlers. These aboriginal people held the rock sacred and occupied it in a number of fashions. They used it as a ceremonial meeting and healing ritual ground, and also took use of its surrounding hot springs, many of which have since dried up. A number of artifacts have been found nearby in the course of the construction of surrounding housing developments, including a number of obsidian knives. The site and its surrounding locale was also used as a burial grounds.

To this date, no honor or protection of any type is offered to the site, and it continues to be heavily vandalized as its sacred history is not mentioned on any plaque or signage of any type. Further archaeological significance is being seriously undermined as a result of this continuing widespread vandalism. Countless broken bottles and trash items litter the ground, and the butte itself is utterly covered in spray paint.

3 Fall Camping Tips You Must Know | Camping

3 Fall Camping Tips You Must Know

loftandlearn.com fall camping tips-

  1. Make sure to arrive at your campsite early. You don’t want to get caught racing the sun for light and warmth. Also Don’t unravel your sleeping bags until it is time to jump in at night because they could gather moisture and get super chilly. (We learned this the hard way)
  2. Make sure to pack extra warm clothes jackets and toilet items. Yes even in the woods. You experienced campers know how to set up an effective and environmentally friendly potty!
  3. Make sure to get your fire started early. There’s nothing like warming toasty hands and making s’mores. If you have a toddler make sure to keep them bundled up and occupied with a bag full of books and gadgets keeping them busy inside the tent before bedtime.

Happy camping!
